Reactor core support - on thermal shield through spring loaded plunger on easily detached slider

Core of a nuclear reactor is supported against a structural component nearby, specially a thermal shield, by an anchor plate welded to the latter which carries slidways. An intermediate member can slide on the slideways and can be locked in position by eccentric cams. A cylinder, loaded by disc springs, on the intermediate member, contacts the core by a barrel-shaped cemented carbide insert to allow a core displacement at right angles to the spring thrust. Such a support can be easily assembled and dismantled. It permits relative axial movements between core and shield and is simple in design so that it can be produced at low cost.
