The plate type heat exchanger has air in the tubes and water on the outside. Each plate consists of two outside plates separated by ribs (3) to form parallel passages of square section between the outside plates. The plates are in banks connected in parallel to form a block. The blocks may be assembled to form a hollow square with air flowing horizontally towards the centre and upwards under the action of a fan. Water flows from the top to the bottom into a reservoir.
