The support wheel for a supermarket trolley has two flanges (5) on which the wheel runs with the space between the flanges filled with a fixed brake surface (7) recessed from the surface of the flanges. The brake surface grips the ribs of a grooved transporter belt to allow the trolley to be secured on moving pavements and on escalators. The brake band is looped about the axle support and to the wheel forks. It has a spring steel core and a grooved rubber covering.
