1301606 Foamed plastics slabs RHONE-POULENC SA 19 April 1971 [16 April 1970] 27057/71 Heading B5A An apparatus for the continuous manufacture of slabs of expanded foam includes a pivotable plate 15 positioned in an expansion zone 13 so that it presses on the upper surface of an upper covering sheet 6 to keep this surface planar. The plate 15 may be of aluminium or copper, or comprise a metal sheet laminated with a polyethylene sheet or coated with low friction material. The plate 15 can be combined with electrical resistances or circulating coils for heating or cooling fluids. The plate may comprise hinged transversely extending slats. The apparatus further includes a dispenser (4, Fig. 1) for feeding liquid mixture to be expanded between the upper and lower covering sheets 6 and 1, adhesive dispensers (11, Fig. 1) for applying strips of adhesive to the lower covering sheet 1 so that the sheets 6 and 1 may be joined in the region of their longitudinal edges and convergent surfaces 8 and 9 for spreading the liquid mixture. Suitable liquid mixtures are those based on polyethers or polyesters possessing hydroxyl groups and on polyisocyanate, water, blowing agents, surface-active agents and catalysts, such as those used in the preparations of polyurethane foam. |
