Carburettor with automatic choke - superimposes pressure between choke and throttle on pressure-dependent setting device

The carburettor with automatic choke is particularly for automotive IC engines. It has an intake passage controlled by a main throttle, upstream of which is Venturi with a fuel-supply system, together with a choke butterfly. When the engine is cold, the choke butterfly is pre-loaded shut by a temp.-sensitive setting device, and on starting it is opened for a predetermined amount by a second time-lagged setting device dependent on the pressure downstream of the main throttle. The pressure or vacuum in the intake passage between the choke butterfly and the main throttle is superimposed on the pressure-dependent setting device.
