PURPOSE:To obtain a positive electrode active material having high discharge performance and make its treatment time efficient, by neutralizing any acid remaining in electrolytic MnO2 powder with a specific aqueous alkaline solution and driving off the bound water of the MnO2 powder by dielectric heating. CONSTITUTION:Electrolytic MnO2 is ground to powder and any acid still remaining in the powder is neutralized with an aqueous alkaline solution which does not contain any alkali metals. Then, the thus-treated MnO2 powder is subjectd to dielectric heating to drive off bound water contained in the powder. As the aqueous alkaline solution, it is preferable to use an ammonium-base aqueous alkaline solution such as aqueous ammonia solution, aqueous ammonium carbonate solution, or aqueous ammonium acetate solution. The dielectric heating is preferably conducted by irradiating microwaves intermittently. |
