An apparatus intended for driving insulating plates 4 into brickwork in order therein to form a barrier against rising damp has a pneumatically, hydraulically or electrically powered percussion hammer 1, the percussion piston 2 of which acts upon an end side of the insulating plates 4, which consist of profiled, preferably corrugated plates of steel or tough plastic. Based on this design, the intention is to create an easy- to-operate apparatus of simple construction, by means of which the insulating plates, with the use of a percussion tool, can be driven continuously side by side into the brickwork without them sliding away from the percussion tool. With this in mind, the percussion hammer 1 is fitted on a supporting frame and acts upon the insulating plates 4 via an intermediate piece, which is configured as a clamping member 3 having a shaft 7 connecting to the percussion piston 2, and via a snout 8, which, with a groove, tightly encloses the end side of the profiled insulating plate 4 in question, at least over a part of the plate width. The insulating plates are inserted one after another in the snout of the clamping member, which subsequently - as the plates are driven in - holds these securely and ensures that all plates are driven into the brickwork in a straight line in one and the same direction. The snout of the clamping member additionally prevents the same from slipping off the insulating plates and the supporting frame holds the percussion hammer in the correct position. <IMAGE>
