<p>A process for recovering precious metals, from a source material in which they are widely dispersed, comprises melting the source material and contacting it in molten form with a molten collector metal into which the recoverable metals migrate. The contacting is carried out in a carbon vessel at an elevated temperature and carbon, in an amount at least sufficient to saturate the molten collector metal at the elevated temperature, is added to the collector metal to reduce or eliminate attack of the carbon vessel by the molten collector metal.</p> |
