PURPOSE:To enable the use of an ink ribbon over its whole width without wastefulness and to lengthen the life of the ink ribbon, by making an inclined angle between the running direction of the ink ribbon and the dot-aligning direction of a head, and directing either the rightside or the leftside of the ink ribbon in turn to the head. CONSTITUTION:The ink ribbon 4 is positioned between an object to be printed and a printer head 2 having a plurality of wire dots 1 aligned in one line. The running direction of the ribbon 4 is arranged at an inclined angle with the dot-aligning direction of the head 2. According to this arrangement, only a single side 5 of the ribbon 4 along its width can be directed to the head 2, and the position directed to the head 2 can be alternatively switched to the opposite side 6 by the movement of the ribbon 4. For instance, the head 2 is arranged at the ribbon-exposing part 9 of an endless ribbon cassette 7 provided with the ribbon 4. In this case, the cassette 7 is swung either rightwards or leftwards by a rotary solenoid 10, so that the inclined angle between the running direction of the ribbon 4 and the dot-aligning direction of the head 2 can be switched to either rightward or leftward. |
