An apparatus for mixing very rapidly the reacting gases entering an oxygen reforming reactor where a highly exothermic reaction occurs instantaneously between an oxygen rich gas and a process gas containing hydrocarbons, and possibly hydrogen, steam and carbon oxides, said apparatus comprising essentially a metallic shell having a cylindrical or truncated conical shape, internally lined with refractory, in which the process gas is injected tangentially, a distributor receiving the oxygen gas through a conduit crossing said metallic shell, and a multitude of channels parallel to the axis of said shell, welded at one end to said distributor, and open at the other end where the oxygen gas issues and comes into contact with the process gas, through an orifice having at least one very reduced dimension, said channels being arranged so that said process gas flows around and between them before coming into contact with the oxygen rich gas, thereby achieving the mixing of the reacting gases quasi instantaneously, before the partial oxidation reaction proceeds significantly, thus avoiding the risk of formation of carbon particles.
|
