Novel 7ss-[D-2-amino-2-(aminohydroxyphenyl)acetylamino]-3-cephem-4- carboxylic acid compounds of the formula <IMAGE> in which R denotes hydrogen or an acyl group, R0 denotes hydrogen or lower alkyl, R1 denotes hydrogen or a group of the sub-formula (R)(R0)N-, R2 denotes carboxyl or protected carboxyl and R3 denotes hydrogen, halogen of atomic number up to 35 or lower alkoxy, are prepared. Intermediates are also included. Novel compounds have useful antibiotic properties and are effective both against gram-positive and against gram-negative microorganisms with low toxicity. They can therefore be used for the treatment of appropriate infections. |
