PURPOSE:To quench a pipe uniformly and assurely by a small-type device, by a method wherein cooling water is forcibly passed on the inside and outside surfaces of a pipe while moving the pipe in the longitudinal direction to cool the pipe uniformly. CONSTITUTION:The pipe 4 to be quenched is fed into an outer cylinder 11 via a door 12 by a roller table 15, and the door 12 is closed. The pipe 4 is moved forward while cooling the outside surface of the pipe 4 by jetting cooling water from each nozzle 13 provided for the outer cylinder 11. In addition, cooling water is jetted also from a movable nozzle 19 fitted into the leading end part of the pipe 4, thereby forcibly cooling the inside surface of the pipe 4. By rotating a sprocket 16, the nozzle 19 is moved leftward at the same speed as the conveying speed for the pipe 4 while jetting the cooling water from the nozzle 19. When the nozzle 19 reaches the position of a sprocket 17, it is turned along the sprocket 17 so that it is disengaged from the pipe 4, while the latter 4 is fed by the roller table 15 and is taken out to the exterior of the outer cylinder 11. Then, the nozzle 19 is returned to the initial position and is stopped in situ. |
