The rotary spinning unit for covering windings has single phase transformer unit for the transmission of power and signals. The internal sleeve (2) is produced as a cylindrical unit with an L-shaped profile onto which is wound the internal winding (3). An outer iron core component (4) has a mating 'L' shaped profile that receives the other coil (5). The separating gaps between the two components (7) are selected as small as possible to minimise the loss in signal transmission between the input and output connections (9).
