The established cavity wall has an inner skin (1) and an outer skin (2). The new wall has inner and outer skins (3,4). To preserve the continuity of the cavity (5) is formed in the outer skin (2) of the established wall. A bracket (6) is fastened by nails or screws (7) to the end face of the old outer skin (2). This has a T-shaped cross section in plan, the cross piece being in the cavity. The stem has a wide re-entrant groove (8). A tie member (11) has a forked end (13) and an angle plate (12). This can be inserted in the groove and turned through 90 degrees to lock it in position. The tie is then automatically embedded in the next layer of mortar, to connect the old and new walls. Pref. the bracket (6) and/or the tie member (11) is nylon coated to protect it against corrosion.
|
