The loading aid has an angular loading arm (2) which can be displaced with a leg (5) which is horizontal in the position of rest in a guide (3) running in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle and is provided on a vertical leg (6) with a removable extension (8) which bears a cable winch (9). The guide (3) can be swivelled with the aid of a hydraulic drive (12) about a transversely extending axis (4) on the chassis to such an extent that the loading arm can be swivelled essentially through more than 90 DEG . At the rear end of the vehicle, a mounting and locking device (16) which acts on both sides of the material to be loaded and can be adapted to the width of the material to be loaded is arranged, it being possible to swivel and lock said mounting and locking device in an operative position. In the operative position, the mounting and locking device ensures automatic locking of the material to be loaded when said material has reached the desired position on the loading surface of the vehicle. <IMAGE>
