A clinical appliance for application to a tissue or a tissue-associated material, the appliance comprising a head (12), a handle (10), a pressure-sensitive means through which the head is moveable relative to the handle, an instrument adapted to be retained in the head, and an engageable locking means (30) adapted to maintain the head in fixed relationship to the handle.
