PURPOSE:To obtain a heat treated steel wire rod having no irregularities in quality by hoisting a rotary drum to be wound with a hot wire rod to be heat treated in a specific direction in a heat treatment furnace. CONSTITUTION:In a continuous heat treatment furnace such as salt bath heating furnace or atmosphere heating furnace, a rotary drum 7 is hoisted with its axial direction perpendicularly to the traveling direction of a steel wire rod 2 in a salt bath 6 or heating atmosphere in a furnace 4. The wire rod 2 from a swift 1 travels in an arrow direction, is wound plural times by a strand system to the drum 7, and is thereby heat treated. At this time, the slack of the rod 2 drawn out from the furnace 4 is detected, and the number of revolutions of the drum 7 is controlled by the signal thereof, whereby the generation of the slack in the wire rod 2 is prevented. By this mechanism, the steel wire rod 2 is heat treated efficiently with a compact installation. |
