PURPOSE:To prepare an oxygen-contaning hydrocarbon from carbon monoxide and hydrogen, in extremely high activity and selectivity, by using a VIII-group metal as the main catalyst in combination with a cocatalyst comprising at least one alkaline metal element selected from alkali metals and thallium. CONSTITUTION:In the preparation of 1-4C, esp. 1-2C oxygen-containing hydrocarbon by the reaction of carbon monoxide with hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst composed of a VIII-group metal of the periodic table, e.g. Pd, Rh, Co, Ru, Pt, Ir, Fe, etc. supported on a carrier, the reaction is carried out using at least one metal selected from the group of alkali metals such as Li, Na, K, etc. and thallium as a cocatalyst. The atomic ratio of the VIII-group metal to the cocatalyst is 1:(0.1-10). An oxide having OH groups at the surface is especially effective as the carrier. EFFECT:The catalyst and the carrier are easily available, extremely stable, and easily producible. |
