PURPOSE:To eliminate bad influence exerted on a running system of a magnetic recording medium, and to elevate its position accuracy, by providing an MR element on a back gap part of a head formed by winding a coil around a high magnetic permeability magnetic core. CONSTITUTION:Thickness of back cores 12, 13 is different from each other, a stepped part 17 is provided in the vicinity of a back gap 16, and an MR head member 100 is installed to the stepped part. The MR head member 100 is formed by laminating a substrate 101, an electric conductor thin film 102 and an MR element 104, by placing an insulating layer 103 between them. On the electric conductor thin film 102 and the MR element, bias applying electrodes 105, 106, and output fetching electrodes 107, 108 are formed, respectively. The MR element 104 can be vertically placed in the vicinity of the back gap 16, and especially, can be placed in the proximity of the edge of the back gap 16, therefore, it can be exactly induced by a leakage magnetic flux. In this way, it is possible to reproduce by an ultralow frequency high SIN ratio without leakage of a bias current and irrespective of a kind of a tape. |
