<p>A continuous plastics web (10) is formed, e.g. by extrusion, on a carrier belt (40), and heated prior to transfer of a printed design from a stable carrier sheet, such as release paper (62); the printed design includes registration indicia. A plastics film (92) is then laminated to the printed web to provide a protective wear coat. After aligning the web by means of the registration marks, embossing is offered with a conventional engraved roller (112); after cooling the laminated product is stripped from belt (40) and then annealed to remove strains. It is then aligned with a die cutter (142) using the same registration marks as used for alignment during embossing. As a result, individual tiles can be cut automatically in register to the printed and embossed pattern. <IMAGE></p> |
