PURPOSE:To enable even a VTR having decreased track width to perform excellent tracking, by providing a recording and a reproducing head, reproducing a pilot signal through the recording head, and then obtaining a tracking error signal. CONSTITUTION:Couples of recording magnetic heads 1W (2W) and reproducing magnetic heads 1R (2R) are fitted on an electromechanical transducing element 7, which is displaced in the vertical direction of the recording tracks, in such a way that widthwise center lines of their gaps are made coincident with each other. During recording, the recording magnetic heads 1W and 2W record pilot signals together with video signals and during reproduction, the recording magnetic heads 1W and 2W reproduce said pilot signals; and a tracking error signal extracted from the reproduced pilot signal is applied to said electromechanical transducing element 7 to control the scanning positions of the reproducing magnetic heads 1R and 2R. |
