PURPOSE:To provide a titled supporting base which has higher reliability in strength and is reduced in weight and cost by using forged material only for strength members, using low grade castings and steel plates for general structure for other members, and welding and coupling them. CONSTITUTION:Side blocks 11, 12 made of cast steel, a bearing mounting part 13 made of forged steel for backup rolls, stays 14, 15 made of steel plates for connecting the blocks 11, 12, auxiliary stays 16, 17 made of steel plates for increasing strength, etc. are connected to one body by an electroslag welding method, and the assembly is machined after annealing, whereby a supporting base 18 for backup roll is obtained. Since said base 18 is produced by welding the respective constituting parts which are worked up to rough finishing, the parts are easy to work and the number of steps is reduced. Since the materials withstanding high stress can be selected only for the part 13, the supporting block having high performance is obtained without increasing the cost so much. |
