PURPOSE:To maintain dispersion ability, suppress occurrence of free electrolyte in a negative electrode in a long storage period, and obtain an alkaline battery having excellent electrolyte leakage resistance by using together a thickening agent which suppresses syneresis and sodium polyacrylate instead of sodium acrylate alone as a thickening agent. CONSTITUTION:A gelled negative electrode comprising negative active mass powder, a polyacrylic acid salt, graft polymer of starch-acrylnitrile, and a caustic alkali electrolyte is filled into a negative case. The graft polymer of starch- acrylnitrile has large liquid retension power compared with sodium polyacrylate, and does not decrease viscosity in a long storage period. The amount of sodium polyacrylate and graft polymer of starch-acrylnitrile added is 1wt% and 1.7wt% of amalgamated zinc powder respectively. |
