<p>PURPOSE:To simplify construction of a device and improve its durability, by interposing a transmission mechanism between an opening and closing valve and one end of a cam follower and actuating the transmission mechanism in such a manner that rocking motion of the cam follower can be selectively transmitted to a valve body of the opening and closing valve in accordance with an operational condition of an internal combustion engine. CONSTITUTION:A transmission mechanism, interposed between a valve body 5 of an opening and closing valve 4 and one end of a cam follower 19, responsively operated to a cam 18, is constituted from the first and second meshing members 10, 11. In this way, in normal operation of the valve, the second meshing member 11 is adapted to a surface A of the first meshing member 10, and height of the transmission mechanism is increased, then the valve body 5 performs opening action in accordance with rocking motion of the cam follower 19. When an engine is operated to a light load, a control rod 15 causes the second meshing member 11 to turn counterclockwise and correspond to a goove B of the first meshing member 10, then the second meshing member 11 is put into the groove B by pressing force of the cam follower 19. Accordingly, the cam follower 19 is caused not to transmit its driving force to the valve body 5.</p> |
