Pharmaceutical preparations containing derivatives of indolizino[8,7-b]indole of the formula <IMAGE> in which Ra represents the group -(CH2)m-, in which m is zero or 1, Rb represents the group -CH(R1)-, in which R1 denotes hydrogen, lower alkyl, hydroxyl, which may be esterified or etherified, lower alkylthio, or substituted or unsubstituted amino, R2 denotes hydroxymethyl, which may be esterified or etherified, or carboxyl, which may be functionally modified, R3 and R4 each denote hydrogen or lower alkyl, or the group -CH=CH- is present instead of the group -(Rb-Ra)-, and in which the carbocyclic ring A is unsubstituted or contains substituted or unsubstituted lower alkyl, hydroxyl which may be esterified or etherified, nitro and/or substituted or unsubstituted amino as substituents, and N-oxides of such compounds, and salts thereof, and such compounds as quaternary ammonium compounds or salts thereof, and new compounds of the formula I or N-oxides thereof or salts thereof, or such compounds as quaternary ammonium compounds or salts thereof, appear to be suitable for the treatment of vigilance disorders and insufficiency of cerebral ability, in particular of dysmnesia of different origin, such as senile dementia, multi-infarct dementia or dementia of the Alzheimer type, furthermore of secondary effects of cerebral traumas or apoplexy. |
