PURPOSE:To enable rewinding to another take-up spool by changing instantaneously the space between the nozzle and quick cooling roll of a device for producing a quickly cooled metal thereby changing abruptly the thickness or diameter of the quickly cooled metal and breaking the metal. CONSTITUTION:The space between a nozzle and a quick cooling roll is made artificially large or small during the time of >=0.000005sec in the stage of exchanging a take-up spool without interrupting the production of a quickly cooled light-gage strip when said strip is wound around the spool to a prescribed amt. The breakage hardly arises and the exchange of the spool is difficult in the time shorter than 0.000005sec in this stage.
