PURPOSE:To provide a coating agent which is suitable for preventing generation of oxide scale in the stage of heating a slab by adding a specific amt. of metallic powder having a deoxidizing effect to a basic oxide material to be incorporated as one oxide to form double oxides having a specific m.p. and keeping the component of SiO2 at a specific amt. or below. CONSTITUTION:An agent for preventing generation of scale is prepd. by using one or >=2 kinds of a basic oxide material and/or amphoteric oxide material to be incorporated in said agent as at least one of oxides to form double oxides having >=1,300 deg.C m.p., adding 25-40wt% metallic powder having deoxidizing effect and keeping the component of SiO2 at <=2wt%. There are MgO, CaO, etc. as the basic oxide material and there are Al2O3, etc. as the amphoteric oxide material. This agent is made into a slurry by a solvent such as water and the slurry is coated on a steel material and is dried, and thereafter the steel material is heated. |
