PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium having superior resistance to damage by filling a metallic oxide into fine holes pierced in a magnetic thin film on a substrate in a uniformly dispersed state up to the surface of the thin film or to a slightly higher position than the surface to form a magnetic layer. CONSTITUTION:A thin film 2 of a magnetic metallic body or a magnetic metallic oxide body is formed on a substrate 1 such as an Al or polyester sheet. A photoresist film 5 is coated on the film 2, exposed, and developed to pierce openings 6 of about 1mum diameter in the film 5 in a uniformly dispersed state. Holes 3 are pierced in the film 2 by ion beam etching or other method, and a metallic oxide 4 such as Al2O3 or SiO2 is deposited up to the surface of the film 2 or to a slightly higher (about 100Angstrom ) position than the surface by sputtering. The film 5 and the metallic oxide layer on the film 5 are then removed. Thus, a magnetic disk or the like contg. the metallic oxide 4 filled in the holes 3 is obtd. The uniformly and finely dispersed metallic oxide 4 prevents the damage of the magnetic layer due to contact with a magnetic head, so the magnetic disk has superior durability. |
