<p>A process for the preparation of uniform, free-flowing, expanded microspheres is provided by atomizing a dispersion of microspheres and an inert liquid, and contacting said atomized dispersion with hot, inert gas, the microspheres preferably having a thermoplastic shell with a liquid blowing agent inner core. The novel process overcomes known microsphere expansion processes in which non-uniform expansion occurs due to the heat insulation of some unexpanded particles by other particles which are already in the expanded state.</p> |
