PURPOSE:A cathode-ray tube, having a fluorescent surface formed from a mixture of a specific fluorescent substance with a long afterglow with a specific fluorescent substance with an ultrashort afterglow, etc., and suitable for particularly for use in light pens at a low cost. CONSTITUTION:A cathode-ray tube sensitive to light pens having a fluorescent surface formed from a mixture of (A) a fluorescent substance with a long afterglow having >=10 milliseconds at 10% afterglow time with (B) a fluorescent substance with an ultrashort afterglow, having <=1 microseconds at 10% afterglow time, and expressed by the composition formula Y3(Al, Gd)5O12:Ce, or a two- layer fluorescent surface having classified layers of the components (A) and (B).
