PURPOSE:To improve the quality of a binary-coded picture by calculating the difference value of picture data, and carrying out dither processing when the difference value is smaller than a specific value or image processing based upon a specific threshold value when the difference value is larger. CONSTITUTION:Original picture data from an input device 101 while supplied to an adder 102 is inputted to a shift register 106 as well. Two points in a linear picture element array are extracted from, for example, register stages L2 and L4 of the register 106 and inputted to a difference device DIR107. This difference device 107 calculates the picture element difference between the L2 and L4, and the difference value is inputted to the 2nd comparator 108. This comparator performs the dither processing by using a dither matrix table 103 when the difference value is smaller than the specific value, or the image processing by using the specific threshold value in a dither matrix table 103 when the difference value is larger than the specific value. |
