PURPOSE:To obtain the objective inner olefin useful as a raw material of surface active agent, etc., economically, in hibh yield, by isomerizing a long-chain 1- olefin using a specific aromatic sulfonic acid as a catalyst. CONSTITUTION:An inner olefin is prepared in high yield, suppressing the formation of polymerized 1-olefin oil and scarcely leaving the unreacted 1-olefin, by isomerizing a 6-30C, preferably 12-24C 1-olefin, e.g. the compound of formula (R1 is H or 1-3C alkyl; R2 is straight- or branched-chain alkyl; R1+R2 is 3- 27C, preferably 9-21C) using a catalyst comprising a 10-24C, preferably 14- 22C aromatic sulfonic acid, especially an alkylbenzenesulfonic acid having 8-16C alkyl group, e.g. dodecylbenzenesulfonic acid. The reaction is preferably carried out at 170-210 deg.C for 0.5-2hr using 2-8wt% of the catalyst based on the 1- olefin. |
