<p>Plants are grown in soil-less containers 14 of oval-shaped cross-section connected by thin strips 26, container blanks and connecting strips being formed by compression from a block (10, Fig 1) of open-cell polyurethane foam by means of heated platens (16 and 18, Fig 4), blind bores 28 being formed in the container blanks by any suitable means. The strips 26, being highly compressed, have a high density (125 kg/m<3>) and a high capillarity compared with containers 14 and so preferentially absorb water, whereby plant waterlogging in the containers is avoided. <IMAGE></p> |
