The system is intended for reproducing speech or songs both in the original language and simultaneously in several other languages. This invention consists of a device for wireless transmission of a number of audio signals by means of infrared radiation (7) (8) (9) (10) to a number of small receivers (11) of very simple construction which can be set for reception of the required audio signal by means of a selector switch (20) and the signal can then be listened to with earphones. When the invention is used in cinemas, the film copy could, in addition to the original soundtrack, carry additional soundtracks with the relevant simultaneous translations of the speech, these could be sensed at the same time by means of an adaptor, passed to the transmitter (2) and from there beamed out into the cinema auditorium through the aerials (3-6). The arrangement in accordance with A/patent 36 22 32, as a device for reproducing a subsequent simultaneous translation of the speech on film copies, could with advantage be extended by combining it with the present invention. Theatre shows with speech and singing represent a further field of application of the invention. A master tape is produced of the original performance of the play, which contains coded translation inserts. The master tape runs in synchronism with the performance and, by its coding, switches the multi-track simultaneous tape, as described above, stepwise from one text insert to the next, in connection with which the prompter could also perform these switching operations or correct them according to the recorded coding. Each track of the simultaneous tape is thus allocated to a particular language, the recorded signal of which being beamed out by the transmitter (2) via the aerials (3-6) so that it can be received by the receivers (11) according to the frequency selected.
