PURPOSE:To increase the cycle life of a secondary battery by using a crystalline 2,5-thienylene high polymer formed by repeatedly connecting the 2,5-thienylene group for at least one of the positive and the negative electrodes. CONSTITUTION:2,5-Dihalogenothiophene or its derivative is caused to react with metallic magnesium in an inactive atmosphere and in an aliphatic ether system solvent to make an active organic monomagnesium compound. Next, after the aliphatic ether system solvent is removed, the organic monomagnesium compound is polymerized in an inactive atmosphere, in the presence of a nickel complex catalyst and in an aromatic ether system solvent to obtain a crystalline linear 2,5-thienylene high polymer formed by repeatedly connecting the 2,5- thienylene group represented by the general formula. Such a high polymer is used for at least one of the positive and the negative electrodes of a secondary battery. |
