A monitoring apparatus for a multi-row seed planting machine (10), includes a programmed microprocessor (34). A plurality of sensors (16, 18, 21) detect the machine functions e.g. seed sensing, distance sensing, planter lifting or lowering to be monitored, and the microprocessor receives and stores data corresponding to the monitored functions. The apparatus counts the number of seed signals received over a predetermined increment of travel and calculates the seed population planted in each row, and stores a predetermined plural number of the population calculations. The means storing the population calculations are reset to zero after sensing the lowering of the seed delivery apparatus at the beginning of the next pass over a field. The microprocessor also calculates the average values of the stored population data. The microprocessor also produces a failure signal if the stored seed population data fails to fall within preselected high and low limits. <IMAGE> |
