<p>A direct spoil stacker, more particularly for use in an installation for the removal, in two or more steps, of the overburden lying above useful mineral, in a discontinuous open cut operation, using a drag line excavator which removes the lowermost step and stacks the directly obtained overburden on the other side of the excavation exposing the useful stratum, the direct spoil stacker comprising three travelling mechanisms arranged at the corners of a triangular support structure formed by struts which define a horizontal equilateral triangle, a main boom extending perpendicularly from one said strut and arranged in a medial plane of said support structure, one corner of the triangular support structure being located on the side remote from the said boom, and said one strut, the support structure constituting a base for two frame elements lying in planes passing through the said one strut, each frame element comprising a pair of struts of the same length and converging upwardly, a vertical strut extending upwardly from said one corner, the upper end of said vertical strut being connected to the upper end of one said frame element inclined rearwardly by a suitable amount, the said one frame element being connected to the other frame element by a tension member, and the main boom being braced, at least in the vertical plane, in relation to the boom side frame element.</p> |
