In a device for laminating a film piece cut off from a continuous web onto a sheet-shaped object, in order also to permit a satisfactory coating of thin and flexible articles it is proposed that laminating rolls in the region of the leading edge of the films pressed from a film holder onto the sheet-shaped object can be pressed against the film, that the film holder can be removed from the pressing region of the leading edge of the film to the extent that the laminating roll in this region can be pressed against the leading edge of the film, and that the laminating rolls are driven in such a manner that they draw the sheet-shaped object past them and in the process press the film against the sheet-shaped object.
