A device for heat exchange, in particular in the case of a district heating system or the like, consisting essentially of a container through which a secondary fluid that is to be heated flows, and of a heating element which is arranged in the container interior and through which primary fluid, which dissipates heat, flows in accordance with the countercurrent principle, as well as having a secondary-fluid extraction point, which is arranged above the heating element, and having a secondary-fluid inlet point arranged below the extraction point, the heating element (10) consisting of at least two mutually connected elements (15, 16, 17), a first element (15) being arranged between the extraction point (5) and the inlet point (8), and a second element (16) being arranged below the inlet point (8), and the inlet point (8) being arranged between the first element (15) and the second element (16) in such a way that there is formed below the inlet point (8) a zone of the secondary fluid which is essentially not covered by the secondary-fluid circuit, exhibits stabilised flow and temperature stratification, and in which the second element (16) is located. <IMAGE>
