PURPOSE:To prevent erroneous diagnosis at the time when trouble is caused just after an ignition switch is turned OFF and operation of sensors and an actuator is stopped, by providing a means for delaying judgement on the result of diagnosis for detecting trouble of a control system for a predetermined while. CONSTITUTION:Judgement is made whether or not the timing is IGf check timing, i.e., the timing delayed a predetermined while from an ignition instructing signal IGt afforded from a control circuit 10 to an ignitor 14. In case of YES, judgement is made whether or not an ignition executing signal IGf is produced actually from the ignitor 14. In case of NO, the time TF at the time is read out from a free-run counter or the like, and the time TF+DELTAT after passing of a predetermined delay time DELTAT from the time TF is stored in a RAM24. Then, judgement is made whether or not the actual time T has passed the time TF+DELTAT stored in the RAM24, and in case of TF+DELTAT>=T, other process is executed. By thus delaying judgement on the result of diagnosis, it is enabled to prevent erroneous diagnosis at the time just after operation of sensors and an actuator is stopped.
