NEW MATERIAL:An azole derivative shown by the formula I (X is group shown by the formula II or formula III; A is N, or CH; Z is H, or Cl). EXAMPLE:1-(p-Chlorophenyl)4-methyl-4-phenyl-2-(1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)-3-p entanone. USE:Useful as a fungicide. Expecially against Oomycetes, Basidiomycetes, Ascomycetes, and Fungi imperfecti. To be concrete, it is useful for Albugo macrospora of vegetables and Japanese radishes, Ustilago tritici of wheat, Piricularia oryzae and Fusarium moniliforme of rice plant, Fusarium graminearum of wheat, Venturia inaqualis of apples, Venturia nashicola or pear, etc. PREPARATION:A ketone shown by the formula VI is reacted with a benzyl halide shown by the formula V in a solvent such as dimethylformamide, etc. in the presence of a basic catalyst, to give a compound shown by the formula VI. Then, the compound shown by the formula VI is reacted with a reducing agent such as a complex metal hydride compound ordinarily used in the presence of a solvent such as methanol, etc., to give a compound shown by the formula VII in the formula I .
