PROCESS FOR PREPARATION OF INDOLE DERIVATIVES

Indole derivs. of formula (I) are prepd. by reacting 3-alkylthio- indole derivs. of formula (II) with Raney nickel in the presence of an inert organic solvent, and substituting the reaction prods. with hydrogen atoms. In the formulas, R1 is a C1-6 straight- or branched- chain alkyl gp., opt. substd.by OH; R2 is a C7-24 straight- or branched-chain alkyl; R3 is a C1-6 straight-or branched-chain alkyl or H; and R4 is a C1-6 straight- or branchedchain alkyl. (I) have hypolipidaemic activity, lower the concns. of cholesterol and triglycerides in blood, and reduce the proliferation of anterial smooth-muscle cells. (I) also lower blood glucose levels.
