The invention relates to a device for the convenient exchange of circular type carriers in typewriters and printing mechanisms. The device is based on known solutions, by means of which a circular type carrier, inserted at random in a type-carrier shaft, is automatically coupled to a carrier pin by a known search run. In this case, the carrier pin is arranged on a carrier disc which, in turn, is fixedly connected to the shaft of the drive motor. According to the invention, the retention of the circular type carrier, required for the search run, relative to the carrier pin is effected by a non-positive bearing of the circular type carrier against the type-carrier shaft by means of a tilting moment which the carrier pin secured rigidly on the carrier disc exerts on the circular type carrier. <IMAGE>
