The novel substituted carboxylic acid anilides of the formula <IMAGE> (I) in which X represents oxygen or sulphur, R1 represents hydrogen, halogen, alkyl with 1 to 6 carbon atoms, trifluoromethyl, optionally substituted phenyl, alkoxy with 1 to 6 carbon atoms or alkylmercapto with 1 to 6 carbon atoms, R2 represents halogen or methyl, n represents 0, 1 or 2, R3 represents hydrogen, halogen, optionally substituted alkyl with 1 to 6 carbon atoms, optionally substituted aryl, optionally substituted aralkyl or the radicals -OR6 or -SOm-R6, wherein R6 represents optionally substituted alkyl with 1 to 6 carbon atoms or optionally substituted aryl and m represents 0, 1 or 2, and R4 and R5 independently of one another represent halogen or optionally substituted alkyl with 1 to 6 carbon atoms, or R4 and R5, together with the adjacent carbon atom, represent an optionally substituted, saturated or unsaturated carbocyclic ring with 3 to 8 ring carbon atoms, are very active herbicides. |
