MANUFACTURE OF GAS SELECTIVE PERMEABLE COMPOSITE MEMBRANE

PURPOSE:To obtain a composite membrane indicating better gas selectivity by treating the fine surfacial layer of a polyetherimido asymmetrical membrane with silane coupling agent and laminating plasma polymerized film and a thin film of organopolysiloxane. CONSTITUTION:A polyetherimido membrane of asymmetrical pore diameter having a repetitive unit as shown by the formula I is made by a wet method. Then a silane coupling agent or a solution containing silicon primer is applied to the fine surfacial layer and thermally dried, thus reforming the surface. After this process, an organosilicon compound containing at least one double bond or triple bond of organosilicon compound containing nitrogen atoms is piled up on the surface through plasma polymerization. Next, a solution containing organopolysiloxane is applied to laminate a thermally cured thin film.
