In the winding appliance for the winding of threads, the bobbin tubes are clamped onto clamping chucks. Severing knives are arranged on the bobbin-clamping mandrel in front of or behind the clamping chucks. Moreover, there can be thread-catching devices which catch and grip the thread to be wound for the purpose of thread piecing. The thread-catching device has axially movable catching rings which are actuated simultaneously with and via the device for unclamping the clamping chuck for the purpose of releasing the thread end.
