PURPOSE:To achieve a smaller size and a lower cost without increasing the number of signal lines, by arranging a PG magnet magnetized along the length thereof to project to the circumference of a rotor while a magnetic resistance element is opposed thereto having a magnetism sensing section vertical to the diameter of the rotor. CONSTITUTION:A PG magnet 4 magnetized as N and S poles along the length thereof is arranged to project to the circumference of the rotor 6 with one 5 of N and S poles turned outside. A magnetic resistance element (MR element) 1, two terminals per element, is set on the parallel plane as opposed t the circumference of the rotor 6 and a connector 7 is connected thereto to fetch signals outside. Here, a magnetism sensing section 2 of the magnetic resistance element 1 is arranged vertical to the diameter of the rotor 6. Thus, a smaller size, a lighter weight and a lower cost can be achieved with the number of PG signal lines reduced to less than one as usual.
