PURPOSE:The title highly pure copolymer excellent in heat resistance, moisture absorption resistance and weather resistance and useful as a material for injection-molding electrical or electronic precision parts, housings, automobile parts, etc., comprising three structural units connected to each other in specified manners. CONSTITUTION:A compound which forms a structural unit of formula I [e.g., bis(4-chlorophenyl)ketone], a hydroxyphenylindanole as a compound which forms a structural units of formula II (wherein R<1-4> are each H, a 1-8C hydro carbon or a halogen) and a dialkali metal salt of a bisphenol of formula IV, which forms a structural unit of formula III (wherein R<5-8> are each R<1>, and Y is a bond between benzene rings, a 1-10C bivalent hydrocarbon, O, CO, S or the like) are reacted with each other in, if necessary, a polar solvent such as dimethyl sulfoxide in the presence of a halogen compound to obtain the title copolymer having a logarithmic viscosity of 0.2-2.0dl/g in which structural units I is always bonded with structural unit II and/or III excepting the case where the structural unit is situated on a terminal of the copolymer, and neither structural unit II nor III is directly bonded with a structural unit of the same kind.
