The invention relates to an apparatus for scattering sawdust on pelts, especially mink pelts, during their treatment on the fat scraping machine, during which the pelt is freed of fat and other materials adhering to the inside surface immediately after flaying. During the treatment, the pelt is simply drawn on a gently tapering conical roller V with its inside surface facing outward. The pelt is worked by a cutting unit F having a rapidly rotating blade as the unit travels from side to side along the said roller. A container 1 with a feed roller 2 is suspended above the said roller V. This feed roller is operated by an activating arm 5 via a ratchet mechanism 4 and an angle pinion 3. The activating arm is controlled by the cutting unit F and is moved together with this from side to side during the operation. The ratchet converts the movement to an intermittent unidirectional rotation of the feed roller 2, which releases a metered amount of sawdust on every rotation. The sawdust is conveyed to the pelt S via an outlet chute 6. The apparatus according to the invention dispenses with the manual work of scattering sawdust on the pelts and so reduces the labour force needed. <IMAGE>
