PURPOSE:To produce high quality decoded data with high compression ratio by binary coding odd-numbered lines and the even-numbered lines of the video information and substituting the decoded data of the error line at the time of decoding with decoded data of a line before or after the error line. CONSTITUTION:The data read by scanning lines 102-113 of a reading device of an original 101 are sequentially written into line memories 202-205 for odd-numbered and even-numbered lines separately. The data read from the memories 202-205 are MR coded by an MR coding compressing circuit 207 for the odd-numbered and even-numbered lines separately and further transmitted to a communication channel 208 by the combination of the mutually compensatable pairs 120-122 such as MR coded codes 114, 115-118, 119. The information is expanded by a code stretcher 209, then sequentially written in line memories 211-214 for each line so as to be sequentially read and reproduced as reproduced original 125. In such a case, when an error is caused in data 6 and 8 of the encoder 117, it is sensed by an error sensor and data just before scanning lines 307', 309' are read from the memories 211, 213.
